Backstory:

Born in Imperial Year 1161, Marzo was born as the eldest child of farmworkers in Iafowe, a region in Western Dagda. They began doing art as they took care of their siblings, quickly improving their skills. After saving up enough money, they attend Iafowe’s Magic Academy and begin to learn Reason magic. During this time, they come out as non-binary. In 1178, after graduating from the academy, Marzo packs up their bags and plans on traveling to Fodlan, promising their family to bring back enough money for them to live comfortably.

Once they arrive at Fodlan, Marzo gets a job as a servant to a minor noble. Jeralt’s Mercenaries are then hired to protect the noble during a trip. They are attacked and Marzo manages to defend Byleth from an attack. Impressed with their skills, Jeralt invites Marzo to join the group. Marzo agrees and travels alongside the mercenaries. They then meet Dimitri, Claude, and Edelgard and are later enrolled in the Blue Lions house as a student alongside Byleth, who is the professor.

Academy Phase

As a student in the Blue Lions, they become close to the other students, especially Mercedes, Ashe, and Sylvain. They also convince Marianne and Bernadetta to join.

Timeskip Phase

1181: Travels with their friends to Faerghus and throws themselves into the battle against the Dukedom.
1185: Remembers the promise made five years ago and returns to Garreg Mach.

Marzo reunites with Dimitri, Byleth and the other Blue Lions when they fend off the thieves in the monastery. It's then revealed that the now Faerghus Dukedom is on the verge of collapse. House Gautier is one of the houses standing against the Empire, with Marzo joining Sylvain in assisting in their rebellion.

Ending Card

Soon after the war ended, Sylvain and Marzo got married. Sylvain took on the role of Margrave Gautier, devoting his life to improving relations with the people of Sreng. Marzo, not being a fan of politics, stayed behind in Gautier territory to care for local affairs. It is said that the portraits of King Dimitri and Archbishop Byleth were painted by Marzo. Once the country was fully at peace, they renounced their titles and traveled to Marzo’s hometown in Dagda to live there for the remainder of their lives. Letters from friends and family described them as an unlikely but wonderful pair.

Personality

“A Dagdan commoner we took in during one of our jobs. Accidentally scares some of the other mercenaries with their light steps and quiet demeanor. Knows Reason magic, although they have told me that ‘it's solely for self defense and they would rather be drawing than fighting’.” - Byleth

Due to not having many friends in their younger days, Marzo is seen to be reclusive and quiet. However, they come out of their shell once they get to know someone more. This is seen with Byleth, who Marzo warmed up to back when they were mercenaries. Once familiarized with someone, Marzo becomes more confident, often teasing playfully with their friends and oftentimes willing to lend a shoulder to.

Marzo considers themselves to be a pacifist. They loathe the sight of gore and fears how their parents would react to them once they return. Because of this, Marzo usually locks themselves up in their room after missions in order to calm themselves down. They continue feeling this way during the war, although they are more desensitized to the act of killing.

They are also very frugal as they are saving up enough money to bring back home. This causes some issues such as Marzo forgetting to eat or refusing to replace something that is clearly falling apart. Marzo jokes about marrying a noble in order to “speed up the process”, but never really means it.

Step 1 - Bookworm Next Door (she/her)

Moving was always a struggle for Marzo. New people, new places; it was all so overwhelming. If asked, she would say that it was much better to curl up in a corner and read, letting her imagination run free. The stacks of books in her room prove just that
But unlike all the other places she has moved to, Marzo felt that Golden Grove was special. But is it because of the golden hue of the trees or of the two special kids living right next door?

Marzo is a reserved child that tends to cling to her mom for everything. Since she has moved from place to place constantly, they always have trouble talking to kids her age, oftentimes deferring to their plans regardless if Marzo likes it or not. Once Marzo does find someone they feel comfortable to, she latches herself onto them.
Marzo is smart for a 10 year old, reading books well above her age. If you were to ever see her around, they would most likely be carrying a book.

Relationships

Qiu

Love at first sight. Marzo unfortunately has a habit of staring and going along with everything Qiu says (cough people pleaser cough).

Tamarack

Marzo likes Tamarack a lot! She thinks that Tamarack is a bit too loud and cringy at times, but its her first friend in ages, so she sucks it up.

Mama

Sticks to her like a koala. Never yells at her mom, but is a little bit angry at the fact that she doesn't have a normal family.

Darren

Marzo isn't that comfy around guys all that much, and feels a bit pissed off and a bit sad that he doesn't like her. The hate eventually fades into slight discomfort once they hang out with each other more.

Baxter

Horrifically bad crush on him. Marzo knows that they have absolutely no chance, but they continue to have one nonetheless. Can't look at him in the eye without stuttering and turning red. Baxter just thinks that she's shy.

Step 2 - Waning Lady

Fall is known as the season of change.
However, change isn't always that good.
Marzo was 12 when the rolling clouds in her mind took over. Her only friends beginning to separate didn't help either. Fortunately, her mom noticed and got help before things took a turn for the worse.
Now as a freshman in highschool, can she keep up with the many more changes, or will she be left behind?

During the timeskip, as she and her friends grew up, Marzo was diagnosed with depression. She did feel as if they belonged, but as he saw her friends being able to make friends with other people, she started to feel isolated. How can they make friends while she couldn't? And as Qiu and Tamarack separated, Marzo couldn't help but feel as if it was her fault for not being a good enough person.

By Step 2, Marzo has abandoned all of her old interests. All of the books she had have been donated. She sold her bike to a younger kid. As she recovers and goes through therapy, however, Marzo has begun to pick up drawing and choir.

Relationships

Qiu

Marzo's crush has mellowed out over the years and she no longer feels flustered around them. They hang out frequently, since she is the only one who Qiu actually likes being around with. Marzo will ultimately confess her feelings in a note.

Tamarack

They stick together for everything (classes, hobbies,etc). Marzo tries her best to uplift Tammy when she's feeling down since she doesn't want Tammy to go down the path that she almost did. Marzo's anxiety magically disappears whenever Tammy asks Marzo to do something for her.

Mama

No longer sticks to her mom like before, but they still hang out every once in a while. Marzo often teases her about her friendship with Yusuf.

Ren

Marzo no longer dislikes Ren. They hang out whenever Qiu and Tamarack are both too busy. The only thing keeping them from being best friends with each other is the fact that they usually don't have time to hang out together.

Baxter

Still has a massive crush on him and still can't look him in the eye without blushing. Baxter knows, but doesn't really care. The crush is purely skin deep, and Marzo does not want a relationship with him.

Serenity

Marzo considers them to be Tamarack's friend, not hers. Is still friendly to Serenity regardless. Sometimes feels like she's third wheeling whenever Serenity, Tamarack, and her hang out.

Vianca

Marzo wonders how a popular girl like her would want anything to do with her. Dislikes her a bit for being a bit too harsh on Qiu, but knows that Vianca doesn't know what Qiu's going through.

Love/Friendship

You help Marzo gain confidence in their singing while talking to other musically inclined objects. It is revealed that they are the oldest in their family and feel guilty for leaving them to pursue an 'unrealistic' dream, even if their family fully supported them. At the end, Marzo thanks you for helping them and you become friends/lovers. When you talk to them again, they are singing a little song about being friends/lovers with you.

Hate

Same as above, but you belittle them and mock them for being a coward. Marzo eventually cracks (both physically and mentally) and curses at the player, telling them that they wish they'd never met. If the player tries to talk to them again they are met with silence and a cold stare. Cabrizzio asks the player to leave, saying that Marzo is too fragile to talk to anyone right now.

Realized

Marzo leaves the house and tries to launch a career in music to no avail due to too many artists currently in the world. After wandering around, they stop by a restaurant with a karaoke stage. They soon work there as a server, serving customers' orders and giving a performance whenever it gets slow.

Eventually, they open their own restaurant that offers singing lessons on the weekends. The player never has to pay for them.
